Klay Thompson wants to re-sign with Warriors this offseason
By Bryan Rose
Set to enter restricted free agency at the end of the 2014-15 season, Klay Thompson had hoped that he and the Golden State Warriors would be able to work out a contract extension this offseason.

In fact, Thompson was so eager to get a deal done he wanted things to be signed, sealed and delivered before the start of Team USA’s training camp.
That of course didn’t happen as Team USA’s camp has already tipped off and Klay Thompson sits without a contract extension. Might that be because the the Golden State Warriors were pondering sending the talented two-guard to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Kevin Love? Certainly seems possible.
There’s little doubt that if Klay Thompson hits restricted free agency, he’s going to get a max offer. Given that, it’s a little odd that the Warriors didn’t attempt to get a deal done this summer, though they could be waiting to see how Klay Thompson plays this season.
While extremely talented, it’s questionable if Thompson is truly a max player and the Warriors may be attempting to save a few bucks by allowing him to go into restricted free agency, hoping a scenario like Eric Bledsoe’s plays out. In such, teams would fear that the Warriors would match their max offer to Klay Thompson and they’d feel no need to make an offer, allowing Golden State to keep Klay Thompson at a lower price tag.
It could also be that the Golden State Warriors are waiting until after Team USA’s camp as well considering the two sides have until the start of the regular season to agree on a new contract.
