Report: Dion Waiters believes he should start next season
With the addition of number one overall pick Andrew Wiggins, the backcourt got a little crowded in Cleveland. Kyrie Irving has the point guard position on lock, but in terms of the shooting guard, the Cleveland Cavaliers have two options: the ‘veteran’ third-year shooting guard in Dion Waiters or the rookie phenomenom in Andrew Wiggins.
And as the confident shooting guard he is, Waiters fully believes that he should be the guy starting alongside Kyrie in the frontcourt next season. From CSNNW.com:
"On Monday, following Day 1 of TEAM USA training camp, when CSNNW.com followed up on the matter, Waiters didn’t back down from his stance to be inserted into the starting lineup come next season. “I want to start and I believe that I should at the two,” Waiters told CSNNW.com."

For the Cleveland Cavaliers and the newly hired David Blatt, the decision will likely come down to who’s a better fit alongside Kyrie Irving and superstar LeBron James. Skill-wise, Waiters may be the better fit on paper thanks to his ability to spread the floor, but with Wiggins being the first overall draft pick with a limitless ceiling, the Cavs may be better off throwing him into the fire early on.
Last season, Waiters averaged a career-high 15.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in his second season as a Cleveland Cavalier.
After the 2014-15, Waiters will be eligible for his rookie contract extension.
