The Chicago Bulls entered the 2014 offseason with high hopes. They wined and dined New York Knicks’ forward Carmelo Anthony and although Anthony admitted he nearly decided to sign with the Bulls on two different occasions, he wound up re-signing with the Knicks, inking a five-year deal. The Bulls then turned their attention to Los Angeles Lakers’ big man Pau Gasol. They used the amnesty clause to waive veteran power forward Carlos Boozer and then got to work on their offseason. They signed Gasol to a three-year, $22 million deal and nailed down a deal to bring Real Madrid forward Nikola Mirotić to the NBA on a three-year, $17 million deal. They re-signed point guard Kirk Hinrich and added Denver Nuggets’ veteran point guard Aaron Brooks, but lost D.J. Augustin to the Detroit Pistons. They also traded the rights to their 16th and 19th-overall selections to the Denver Nuggets for the rights to the 11th-overall pick, former Creighton Blue Jays’ forward Doug McDermott.

More from Chicago Bulls

The Bulls could still use another scorer and Dallas Mavericks’ free agent forward Shawn Marion has been connected to the Bulls. Bill Ingram of Basketball Insiders believes Marion would be a “great fit” for the Bulls because “he is still a good defender and capable scorer.” Marion’s days with the Mavericks appear to be after they signed Chandler Parsons and Al-Farouq Aminu.

Marion averaged 10.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 48.2% from the field,  35.8% from beyond the arc and 78.5% from the free throw line last season. Over the course of his career, he’s put up 15.8 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.1 blocks per game while shooting 48.5% from the floor, 33.2% from three and 81.1% from the charity stripe.
