Astros 3B Matt Dominguez hits towering home run (Video)
By Mike Marteny
We all know that Matt Dominguez has power. His 13 home runs is proof of that. The problem with him has been hitting for average. He may never go that, but at least he gives us plenty of moon shots to watch, such as this one against the Oakland Athletics.
The Astros were already leading 6-3 when Dominguez came up in the sixth inning against Oakland’s Dan Otero. I think it’s safe to say Otero lost this meeting.

This home run actually cleared the tracks at Minute Maid Park. He came very close to hitting the glass of the closed roof!
The Astros would go on to win this game 7-4
His .231 average will gain him plenty of nay-sayers, but you can’t discount his ability to hit those long home runs.
There have been plenty of .230 hitters with power that had decent major league careers. Adam Dunn, Rob Deer, and Pete Incaviglia immediately come to mind.
Power is coveted. All teams want it, so Dominguez would seem in no danger of losing his job.
Dominguez and his pals will try and tee off against Jason Hammel again this afternoon in the rubber match of the three game series. Oakland won last night with a six run ninth inning rally.
