There have been plenty of Jon Lester trade rumors as the Thursday MLB trade deadline approaches.

More from Boston Red Sox

One of the teams who has been linked to the Boston Red Sox left-handed ace was the Pittsburgh Pirates, but now they seem to be falling behind in the race.

According to CBS Sports, the Pirates are “reluctant to surrender top prospects” to land the starting pitcher.

By shying away from including top prospects in the deal, the Pirates seem to be falling behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals as potential suitors. Los Angeles and St. Louis are reportedly aggressively pursuing a deal.

The Pirates were specifically mentioned by a National League general manager as a team who could land Lester, but the closer we get to the deadline the less likely it is looking that the Red Sox ace will be heading to the Steel City.

Of course, a lot can change before 4 p.m. ET tomorrow.
