Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is heading into the season coming off back surgery for the second year in a row. Romo has been cautious with his recovery, but when asked who decides if he practices or doesn’t, he shared some details into his recovery plan.

More from Dallas Cowboys

“The athlete, the guy who is out there playing, will consistently want to be out there,” Romo said, via Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News. “If you left it up to me it would be very hard for me to ever sit anything out. And knowing that, it’s really the training staff. And they have a plan that they’ve come up with. And you’ll vary from it every once in a blue moon if it’s so overwhelmingly one-sided. And from that point, you try to stick with it.

“It’s fluid,” Romo said. “It’s one of those things we’re going to figure out after a week, week and a half. We’ll have a little bit more understanding of what it’s going to be. And on top of it, we’ll probably continue to get stronger and better with all the stuff that you do like I mentioned earlier.”
