Johnny Manziel may be the most talked about rookie in this year’s class. Whatever Manziel does on and off the field, rampant speculation is sure to follow. One bad pass and you are sure to see droves of articles lambasting Manziel’s latest performance.

More from Cleveland Browns

Today it was reported that although Manziel is struggling with the Browns second team, he will be granted the opportunity to play with the first team in upcoming practices in order to prove his worth. Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said that the quarterback competition is far from over, meaning the door is open for Manziel to start in week 1.

After practice today, Manziel discussed his transition from college football to the NFL, and his issues in training camp thus far. Manziel downplayed the competition between he and Hoyer, and instead had this to say:

Manziel also pointed out that he has always been better with in-game situations, but it is his job to learn the playbook through and through.

An NFL playbook can be difficult for some rookies to learn, and it certainly takes a lot of effort and time in order to memorize the playbook as a quarterback. If Manziel puts in the work off the field, it should pay dividends on the field.
