Jon Jones incurs cut over eye, gets stitches before UFC 178 (Video)

With UFC 178 right around the corner, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones is gearing up for his record eighth title defense against his toughest challenge to date, the undefeated former heavyweight Daniel Cormier.

Today Jones hit a bit of a roadblock in training when he sustained a cut just under his left eyebrow. Jones then videotaped the subsequent stitching of the cut and posted in on Instagram for our viewing pleasure. Check out Jones’ cut in the video below:

While the cut does not seem very harrowing, we have seen fights be called off before due to cuts in training. Most of the time, those cuts that postpone fights are in the exact location of Jones’ cut.

There is currently no word on the severity of the cut or if it will affect Jones’ fight with Cormier, but the doctor does say in the video that the stitches should clear up the cut in a week’s time. By that calculation, Jones should have no issue making the September 27th date against Cormier.

UFC 178 is shaping up to be one of the greatest pay-per-views the UFC has ever put together. The card right now includes the return of Dominick Cruz and Cat Zingano, as well as the mammoth featherweight bout between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier. Add in the fact that there is rumors that Donald Cerrone and Eddie Alvarez will fight in the co-main event and you have the ingredients for one of the best cards ever.
