Philadelphia Eagles news: Jordan Matthews continues to impress coaching staff
By Jack Crosby
To compensate for the loss of DeSean Jackson, the Philadelphia Eagles drafted versatile wide receiver Jordan Matthews out of Vanderbilt this past May at the 2014 NFL Draft. And so far throughout training camp, he has done everything to show that they made the right decision in the second round by selecting him.

The latest rave review comes from offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, who recently highlighted just how versatile Matthews is by simply stating that he can play wherever they want him to.
“He can play anywhere,’’ Shurmur said during a 15-minute morning interview session with the media. “He’s got size. He’s good against bump-and-run coverage. His spacial awareness is good.’’
Now while he was drafted to compensate for the loss of Jackson, he’ll be playing primarily in the slot, as opposed to Jackson, who did his damage from the outside. Shurmur went a little more in depth as to why that is.
“There are different combinations of things that can happen when you’re inside as opposed to outside,’’ Shurmur said. “He kind of has a good feel for that. You’ve been able to see in camp that he’s been able to get open and make plays.”
He might not make as big of an impact as Jackson did this early on in his career, but if Matthews continues to progress at the rate he is, it won’t be long before he’s at that level.
