Verizon explains decision to throttle speeds
It may be hard to believe, but there are still a number of Verizon Wireless customers who have plans with unlimited data thanks to being grandfathered in when Verizon changed their plans around.

Unfortunately, those same customers are seeing their data access intentionally slowed down by the provider because of a bogus reason.
In a post in its News Center on Wednesday, Verizon claimed that the company had decided to throttle the speeds of customers with unlimited data plans because of apparent congestion on the network.
“As we’ve said, what we announced last week was a highly targeted and very limited network optimization effort, only targeting cell sites experiencing high demand,” the post says. “The purpose is to ensure there is capacity for everyone in those limited circumstances, and that high users don’t limit capacity for others.”
The message is in response to Federal Communications Commission chairman Tom Wheeler’s letter, which stated that the chairman was “deeply troubled” by the fact that Verizon was planning on throwing down the speeds of long time customers simply because they still had unlimited data plans.
“It is disturbing to me that Verizon Wireless would base its ‘network management’ on distinctions among its customers’ data plans, rather than network architecture or technology,” Wheeler wrote.
Verizon stated that it will respond to Wheeler’s letter in a more detailed manner after fully reviewing the document.

Mike’s Musings: Talk about a slap to the face to loyal customers. If you still have unlimited data with Verizon, chances are you’ve been with them for quite a few years. The fact they the company is doing this to longer tenured customers is a joke. Verizon is climbing the board as a terrible all around company really quick.
