This offseason, the Lakers re-signed big man Jordan Hill and swingman Nick Young. They traded for Houston Rockets’ point guard Jeremy Lin, won the bid for the amnesty waiver claim on Chicago Bulls’ veteran power forward Carlos Boozer and signed Memphis Grizzlies’ big man Ed Davis.

They hoped to make a big splash and many believe they still can by making a run at Phoenix Suns’ restricted free agent point guard Eric Bledsoe. However, Larry Coon explains why the Suns likely won’t deal Bledsoe to the Lakers.

"First round pick from Houston — somewhere around #20-25? Not worth all that much.Second round pick? Not worth much.Nash’s expiring deal? While there is some nostalgia in bringing him back to Phoenix to retire, there’s really not a lot of basketball value in that move — and the Suns would be on the hook for his salary. He’s really in there just to provide ballast to make the trade legal. So the Suns really get a low first rounder, a second rounder and a big salary obligation in return for Bledsoe? As I said, I think they can do better."

The only team that could really afford to make Bledsoe a huge offer is the Philadelphia 76ers and that seems like a long shot at best. If a team winds up acquiring Bledsoe from the Suns, it will most likely be the Milwaukee Bucks.

Bledsoe averaged 17.7 points, 5.5 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 47.7% from the field, 35.7% from beyond the arc and 77.2% from the free throw line last season. In his career, he’s put up 8.7 points, 3.4 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game while shooting 44.5% from the field, 32.7% from three and 75.9% from the free throw line.
