Indiana Pacers president Larry Bird has released a statement in the aftermath of the leg injury suffered by Paul George during Friday night’s Team USA Blue and White scrimmage.

From the Indianapolis Star:

"“We are aware of the injury sustained by Paul George in Friday night’s Team USA game in Las Vegas and we are obviously greatly concerned. At this time our thoughts and prayers are with Paul. We are still gathering details and will have an updated statement Saturday.”"

George suffered the gruesome injury while chasing down James Harden on a fastbreak. Given the severity of the injury, the scrimmage was called after the incident.

Director of Team USA Basketball Jerry Colangelo spoke about George’s injury following the game, via Sam Amick of USA Today Sports.

"“This is a very tough blow,” Colangelo said. “It’s a first for us in USA basketball to have something like this take place. It’s a tough situation for our entire organization, our coaches and players are very, very emotional. There’s now ay the game could have gone on under the circumstances.“We need to just take a step back before we do anything at all. Our first concern, our primary concern, is Paul George. I want to reach out to the Indiana Pacers organization, I have a call into owner Herb Simon. This is a tough blow, not only for USA basketball but for the Indiana Pacers. And so, as an organization, we’re just going to let a little bit of time go by here before we address rosters or any of that stuff. It seems unimportant.”"

George averaged 21.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game last season with the Pacers.
