Leon vs Morelia final score: La Fiera gets first win, 4-0, over Monarcas

On Saturday night, Leon vs Morelia took place at Estadio León in León, Guanajuato, Mexico as Week 3 of the Liga MX Apertura season rolled on.

Monarcas entered the match with one point, while the defending Apertura and Clausura champions Leon have yet to pick up a win or a single point.

Leon’s struggles throughout the first two weeks have been one of the most surprising story lines to follow in Liga MX, but they were hoping to get begin their turnaround on Saturday night at home.

When the final whistle blew, Leon picked up their first win of the season in commanding fashion with a 4-0 thanks to a late charge.

After a scoreless first half, Leon was able to strike first thanks to a shot from outside of the box by Yamilson Rivera that beat Monarcas goalkeeper Carlos Rodriguez to the top left corner. The goal came in the 55th minute.

That goal gave Leon the lead and gave La Fiera faithful hope that the club would come away with their first win of the season.

Later on in the second half, in the 73rd minute, Carlos Peña added to the Leon lead to put La Fiera up 2-0.

Then, the flood gates opened.

With momentum in their corner, Leon added on another goal just four short minutes later off of the foot of José María Cárdenas. In the 86th minute, La Fiera struck again as Miguel Sabah put Leon up 4-0 over Monarcas.

That was all Leon needed to secure their first 2014 Apertura win and pick up the highly valuable three points to begin their climb up the league table.
