More from Indiana Pacers

George is currently undergoing surgery in Las Vegas, Nevada — where the Team USA Basketball Showcase ahead of the FIBA World Cup took place — and an update has been provided about the exact extent of his injury.

According to Candace Buckner of the Indianapolis Star, George will be in surgery for two hours.

The surgery is to repair a compound fracture that George suffered after coming down from a challenge on a James Harden breakaway lay-up attempt.

Buckner wrote:

For those wondering what a compound fracture is, it is a a fracture in which a bone is sticking through the skin.

The injury is also known as an open ‘fracture.

The Pacers are expected to provide an update on Saturday.

“We are aware of the injury sustained by Paul George in Friday night’s Team USA game in Las Vegas and we are obviously greatly concerned,” Pacers president Larry Bird said in a statement. “At this time our thoughts and prayers are with Paul. We are still gathering details and we will have an updated statement Saturday.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with Paul George as he prepares to make what will hopefully be a full and speedy recovery.
