Sam Cassell will join Doc Rivers' staff with Los Angeles Clippers

After spending five seasons as an assistant coach with the Washington Wizards, Sam Cassell is heading to the Los Angeles Clippers to be a member of Doc Rivers’ staff.

J. Michael of CSN Washington broke the news and the details around Cassell’s move.

Cassell is respected as an assistant coach, so this is a solid get for Rivers, especially on the heels of previous assistants Tyron Lue and Alvin Gentry leaving the team this summer.  It’s not yet known who the Wizards are looking to hire to replace Cassell.

Cassell spent 15 years as a player in the NBA before taking the assistant job in Washington. He was named an all-star in 2004 and was a member of three championship teams. His career per-game averages are 15.7 points and 6.0 assists.
