The Boston Red Sox put together one of the more impressive trade deadline strategies this year when they landed a handful of great players and completely changed the identity of their team.

More from Boston Red Sox

While flipping John Lackey for Allen Craig and Joe Kelly was a steal of a deal, the biggest move by Boston was made when they traded for All-Star outfielder Yoenis Cespedes before the trade deadline passed on Thursday afternoon. As pointed out by Ian Browne from MLB.com, the Red Sox will see Yoenis Cespedes make his debut with the team today just days after he was traded out of Oakland for starting ace Jon Lester.

The Red Sox have had Cespedes for a day now but he didn’t make a start on Friday, something that will instead happen today. It’s yet to be seen if Cespedes will be able to hold his own with the Red Sox, but the acquisition of the All-Star outfielder shows that the Sox are ready to make a push towards the postseason this year and there’s no saying he won’t want to re-sign when the winter comes around this year.
