The Indianapolis Colts made a big mid-season move to bring in Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson. He didn’t live up to expectations putting up an average 2.9 yards per carry during the 2013 season.

Richardson blamed it on trying to learn a new offense on the fly, with the season underway. Now with a full offseason under his belt a couple weeks into training camp, that excuse won’t fly anymore. Richardson sounds like he isn’t planning on needing any excuses though and said he feels a lot more comfortable in the Colts’ offense.

“The comfort level is so much better now,” Richardson said, via ESPN. “I know the plays and I’m not playing so tight. I’m really comfortable with the offense, and the timing with the offensive line is coming. I know all my cuts and reads before snap.”

Colts head coach Chuck Pagano initially held him out of some early practices because he was visibly not 100 percent. Pagano did say that he could see the comfort coming through though.

“He’s getting back to 100 percent, so I think some of those runs you’re starting to see, the hard work, the full offseason, the comfort with the scheme, the terminology, being around the offensive guys, the guys that are lined up in front of him blocking and seeing him starting to put a foot in the ground, see a hole, burst through the line of scrimmage, all that stuff is coming,” Pagano said. “It’s only going to get better, too, as he gets closer to 100 percent, health-wise. Again, he’s on track, he’s on track.”
