Boom goes the dynamite. Duke Williams put a lick on Giants’ rookie Andre Williams. The running back was having an excellent game until this happened. He scored his first NFL touchdown — depending if you count preseason games. One thing’s for sure, Duke Williams’ hit counted. Andre will feel that tomorrow. Duke ran right through 5-foot-11, 230 pound running back. Welcome to the NFL, Andre! Welcome.

More from Buffalo Bills

Andre Williams was a standout at Boston College. Duke let him know he’s not in Beantown anymore with this hit. This one hit withstanding, Andre, who was well know for proving his bruiser status despite eight man fronts, ran very well against the Bills first-team defense. He’s looking more and more like a fourth-round steal. He finished the first half with seven rush attempts for 48 yards and a touchdown.

With David Wilson’s health becoming more suspect, the running back position became even more wide open. Rashad Jennings is said to be the expected starter, but that doesn’t mean that Andre Williams couldn’t sneak in. If he continues to have a strong season and training camp, the Giants wouldn’t hesitate to promote him to starting back. He and Jennings have a similar skill set, so unlike most NFL backfields that would split carries, the Giant may assign an actual pecking order.
