The Oklahoma Sooners found out this week that 5-star running back Joe Mixon would not be with the team when 2014 fall training camp opened up, but the pain of that loss was eased a bit this weekend thanks to news of a commitment to its 2015 class.

John Humphrey, a 3-star athlete out of League City (Clear Falls), Texas gave his verbal pledge (subscription required) to the Sooners on Saturday, putting the program in double digits for commits in the 2015 class. He committed to Oklahoma before leaving his unofficial visit this weekend according to the 247Sports report.

Before his trip to Norman, Okla. Humphrey had narrowed down his search to Notre Dame and the Sooners, but chose Oklahoma based on what his gut told him during his visit to the school.

While Humphrey may be labeled an athlete by some recruiting services, his 5’10”, 165-pound frame suggests he is best suited as a wide receiver at the next level.

Humphrey brings blazing speed to the table, one of the hallmark traits of OU wide receivers and of the Sooners program in general.

He is the No. 395-ranked player in the country by the 247Sports composite rankings, he is also the No. 37-ranked athlete and the No. 53-ranked player out of the state of Texas.

Oklahoma is now the No. 35-ranked class of 2015 nationally and the No. 4-ranked class in the Big 12—both numbers which are likely to change as the class continues to grow during the fall and winter months.
