Everybody deserves a second chance, right?

More from College Football

Even the most cynical among us might concede as much. Nobody is perfect. Many of us make major mistakes. We would all love to have another chance to get things right after those mistakes.

Here’s the funny/infuriating thing about Alabama coordinator Lane Kiffin: he is on about his 5th chance. I’m not sure how many more chances he is going to get, especially considering that his latest opportunity comes at the best college football program in the past decade.

We can at least give Kiffin credit for admitting that he has made a lot of mistakes along his road through Oakland, Tennessee, USC, and into Alabama. As told to Chase Goodbread of NFL.com, Kiffin said the following:

"“As you make mistakes, the number one thing you’ve got to do is learn from them,” Kiffin said. “And not just make excuses for them. I’ve made more than anybody, probably. To go through what I’ve gone through and still be fortunate to be here, a coordinator with coach Saban at Alabama, you take some time to reflect on that.”"

This man must be talented when it comes to X’s and O’s, because goodness knows he already carries an entire career’s worth of baggage with him at age 39.

By landing at Alabama, Kiffin has likely landed at a spot where he will be protected and fairly well hidden. That’s not to say he can’t get himself in trouble while coaching the Crimson Tide, but it is far less likely now that he is under Nick Saban’s watch.
