Charlie Strong’s Texas Longhorns players don’t just have to earn their starting jobs, they have to earn the very logos on their helmets.

In a motivational tactic straight out of the Handbook for Looking Like a Parody of Yourself, tough guy Strong has removed the Longhorns logos from players helmets’ until such time as they prove themselves worthy.
The actual process of removing the logos, I’m not sure of. I’m picturing Charlie Strong sitting up until the wee hours of the morning with a sharp scraping implement and a bunch of helmets. But that’s silly, Charlie would never do that himself, he’d make some unpaid intern do it.
Charlie is wasting no time changing the culture down there at Texas. This weekend, the disciplinarian announced multiple suspensions and dismissals of players, including the booting of Kendall Sanders and Montrel Meander after their July arrests for sexual assault.
Charlie Strong, he doesn’t mess around. It seems the players are getting the message too.
So the guys who don’t earn their logos, do they have to play with all-white helmets? There’s got to be some kind of rule against that, right? So, doesn’t that make the whole thing kind of silly? Charlie’s not going to send guys out there with no logos.
Oh, it’s symbolic, I guess. Right.
