Wilson, 23, had spinal fusion surgery to repair a disk problem in January and suffers from diffusive cervical stenosis according to Dr. Frank Camissa Jr who along with Giants physician Russell Warren informed the former first round pick that he should no longer play the game he loves.

As part of the statement from the Giants to announce Wilson was placed on IR and his career is likely over, Wilson was quotes in the statement and doesn’t want any one to feel sorry for him.

Wilson said in the statement that he was “thankful that I can literally walk away from the game and that I am healthy and capable of doing the same things I have done all my life, except play football.”

He expounded on those thoughts in an Instagram post:

“At age 8 I told my #Dad I wanted to play football in THE NFL at this point in my life I have done that. Even Blessed to be drafted in the 1st round. Broke and set RECORDS, scored Touchdowns, and all that follows. It’s a great feeling to live a out dream. Unfortunately that has been paused but I am blessed that I am able to walk away from this game healthy and still able to be me with no restrictions pain or struggle and So all I ask is please don’t be sorry or pity ME that’s just one chapter life goes on and I’m glad I can live it. Once a Giant always a #Giant #pocketrocket”

It is always sad when someone has to find a new career at the age of 23, but that is the case for Wilson who appears resigned to his fate and grateful for the time he had in the NFL, which is an incredible mindset to have in light of the devastating news he received on Monday.
