The career of wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin has not been what many thought it might be, as the former first-round draft pick has now failed with two separate teams and is on his third and likely soon to be final chance in the NFL.

More from Detroit Lions

Unlike most players who bounce around, Baldwin’s failure has nothing much to do with off the field behavior weighing him down, it just seems that he can’t latch on in any of the systems he’s been in. Whether it was in Kansas City with the Chiefs or in his brief and unsuccessful tenure with the San Francisco 49ers — who recently cut him — it’s been a tough go of things for Baldwin so far.

Perhaps the third time is the charm though as the Detroit Lions have reached out to Baldwin and reportedly given him another chance. According to Lions beat writer Michael Schottey, the Lions have been awarded Baldwin off of waivers.

Baldwin now enters an offense that has made lesser known receivers useful, as the Matthew Stafford passing attack has been something to watch develop over the years and now has two solid and downfield threats to make things even more interesting. Most attention will be spent on Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate, but the Lions have made guys like Ryan Broyles and Kris Durham relevant which bodes well for Baldwin’s chances of finally latching on.
