Fans of the Oakland Raiders haven’t only had to be subjected to watching a poor roster over the past few years, they’ve been forced to partake in a injury riddled rotation of sub-par running backs.

There’s no doubt that when Darren McFadden is healthy, he’s a very talented player. But there’s almost always some type of nagging problem holding him back which is part of the reason the Oakland Raiders front office brought in Maurice Jones-Drew this offseason.

Some questioned the move suggesting that MJD was over the hill and was no longer the back that many loved during his time with the Jacksonville Jaguars. But Oakland Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olson doesn’t see it that way. He admits he can’t predict how Maurice Jones-Drew will react to being a featured back for so long, but from what he’s seen this offseason, he’s very impressed.

“Maurice Jones-Drew plays like a big back. I’m going to promise you, you’re going to see,” Olson stated. “He’s got such a low center of gravity. He’s extremely difficult to tackle because of his height and his power. He’s got ridiculous power in those legs. And he’s hard to see with a big line. He’s hard to see coming out of the line of scrimmage, and when he does come out, they get a glimpse of him and try and stick an arm out, he’ll rip it off. He’s got that kind of power.”

Oakland has yet to officially give McFadden nor Maurice Jones-Drew the starting gig, though many suspect it will be MJD who opens things up come Week 1.
