Oakland Raiders have no favorite to start at quarterback?
By Bryan Rose
The Oakland Raiders brought in Matt Schaub this offseason and immediately after all but anointed him as the starting quarterback for the 2014 season. Of course, the Raiders weren’t aware that they’d snag Derek Carr in the second round of the NFL Draft just a few weeks later.

Such an addition has thrown a wrench into the prospect of Matt Schaub being officially named as the Oakland Raiders quarterback, especially considering the amount of praise bestowed upon Carr by the Oakland Raiders coaching staff.
So what’s to come? Well, at this point it doesn’t seem as if there is a current favorite. Oakland has said all the right things about Schaub and his veteran presence, but offensive coordinator Greg Olson wouldn’t commit to a name when questioned on Saturday afternoon.
“There’s no regulator with that group. We’ve added the entire play book, thrown everything at ‘em and they haven’t blinked. not only have they absorbed the information but they’ve done a pretty good job executing it . . . there’s just a lot of good ideas bounced around and a lot of good conversations . . . I hate to compare because I’ve had some good groups, but overall, it’s probably the most intelligent group I’ve ever had.”
Olson has previously talked about how intelligent Derek Carr is, so he clearly likes the young Fresno State product. Still, he’s going to have some work cut out for him if he’s to pass Schaub before the season begins as the veteran likely provides Oakland with their best chance to win immediately.
