Now his son will try to do the same. 4-Star athlete Stephen Davis, Jr. gave his pledge to the Tigers on Monday.
“I’m just proud,” the elder Davis said via Keith Niebuhr of 24/7 Sports. “There was no pressure — it was his decision. He made it on his own. He decided it was the best opportunity for him. Like I told him yesterday, he made a good decision. Now, he needs to apply himself in the classroom and on the field, and everything will work out for him. We talked about the relationship we had with the coaches, and the history that’s there. That’s real big.”
Davis, Jr., however, says his dad was not the reason he committed.
“I didn’t just commit because my dad went there,” Davis said. “I think it was the right thing to do. I had a great time there [Sunday]. It was a great experience.”
The 6’4, 215-pounder is from Irmo, South Carolina and attends Dutch Fork High School. Davis is ranked as the country’s 16th-best athlete prospect, the fourth-best overall prospect in the state of South Carolina and the 234th-best overall prospect in the class of 2016 according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.
Davis, Jr. also holds from the Clemson Tigers, Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs, among many others. He is the Tigers’ fourth commitment in the class of 2016, joining 5-Star wide receiver Nate Craig, 3-Star tight end Landon Rice and 3-Star running back Jalen Buie.
