Is it possible we have seen Tiger Woods win his last major?

More from Golf

Woods was forced to withdraw from the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational on Sunday with a back injury, but according to his agent Mark Steinberg is not ruling out competing in the PGA Championship that begins on Thursday.

“Way too early. He has to rest and get treatment and then assess later,” Steinberg wrote in a text message to ESPN.com. “Pointless to make that decision now without proper time to give him best chance. Nothing further today, maybe [not] even tomorrow.”

The PGA of America tweeted that Woods scheduled press conference for Tuesday morning will no longer take place, so we could be facing a Wednesday decision from Woods and his camp to see if he will be healthy enough to get back on the links so soon after being forced to withdraw as a result of his back injury.

If Woods is able to tee it up on Thursday, he is scheduled to play the first two rounds with longtime rival and contemporary Phil Mickelson.

Back injuries are a scary and tricky thing to try and predict how a person will recover from an injury in that area. It’s not a broken leg or a torn ACL where the recovery and rehab can give you a predictable estimation when you can be back in your sport, but this back could be the end of the Woods golf fans have come to know.

Woods has appeared in three tournaments since returning from his back injury with little success, he barely made the cut at the British Open after he missed the cut at the Quicken Loans National in addition to his withdrawal over the weekend.

It would not appear likely that Woods plays in the PGA Championship this weekend, and it may be likely that we have seen the best of Woods and he could be stuck on 14 major championships.

Tiger used to get all the breaks and bounces during his unprecedented run of dominance on the PGA Tour, but those breaks and bounces just aren’t falling for him now.

Hopefully for the game of golf that won’t be the case mush longer.
