Golden State isn’t trading Thompson anywhere but they’re eventually going to have to pay him if they want to stand by him and keep him as long as they’re planning on by keeping him out of Kevin Love trade talks.
While the Warriors could give Thompson an extension this summer as a sign of good faith in the midst of all these trade rumors, but that might have to wait until next summer as there’s no reason to rush a deal.
This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about a deal with Thompson being put off until next summer but it’s something that makes the most sense for the Warriors. They love Thompson and clearly aren’t going to let him go but they’re also not going to rush into anything and overpay for him when they don’t have to — at least not right now.
