Although it’s tough to gather much from a preseason game, especially the initial game, because your top players really don’t see much action, the Giants have already done a little bit of evaluating and one Tuesday, they made a couple of roster moves.
According to Dan Graziano of ESPN New York, the Giants have signed veteran defensive end Israel Idonije and tight end Jerome Cunningham. They waived defensive end Kendrick Adams to make room.
The 33-year old Idonije is originally from Lagos, Nigeria and went to the University of Manitoba in Canada. He joined the Cleveland Browns in 2003 but never made it beyond the practice squad. He joined the Bears in 2004 and remained their until last season when he signed with the Detroit Lions. In 15 games, he had 11 tackles and 0.5 sacks. He returned to the Bears in March, but was released in June. In 10 career seasons, he has 283 tackles, 29 sacks, six forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and 15 passes defended.
Cunningham played at Southern Connecticut State from 2009-2012. In four collegiate seasons, he caught 61 passes for 690 yards and seven touchdowns.
Adams spent last year on the Giants’ practice squad and really didn’t have much of a chance to make an impact. He was credited with four tackles in Sunday night’s victory.
