While much of the hockey world prepares for next season, some teams already have their eyes on the 2015 draft. The No. 1 prospect in the class, Connor McDavid, is considered a potentially generational talent, a Sidney Crosby-like player who could quickly change the fortunes of an entire franchise.

McDavid won’t be the only big name to emerge in the NHL over the next few years, though, and many teams already have franchise cornerstones on hand. Entering next season, here are five young players who could be leading their teams sooner rather than later:
