The Minnesota Vikings will hold running back Adrian Peterson out of the line up in their preseason opener on Friday against the Oakland Raiders. Peterson hasn’t received a preseason carry since Week 3 of the 2011 preseason, so this isn’t exactly unusual.
Of course the Vikings have a new offensive scheme under Norv Turner, but Peterson doesn’t think it is necessary to play in a preseason game to grasp the offense.
“Of course with the new offense, you might want to get out there and get a couple plays in but that’ll be something that I’ll sit down with [Mike] Zimmer and talk about to discuss,” Peterson said, via the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. “…Once you know the offense, you pretty much know the offense. You go out there and run full speed in the regular season. That’s pretty much what we’re doing here.
It will provide Matt Asiata and Jerick McKinnon an opportunity to get snaps and plays under their belt to try and prove themselves.
