It’s probably been a while since you’ve heard Chauncey Billups’ name involved in anything other than an injury report, but it appears as if the veteran is still seeking an NBA contract.

Set to turn 38-years-0ld before the 2014-15 season gets underway, many have questioned if the former NBA Finals MVP can still play at a high level but reports have suggested that he looks as spry as ever. That may be a reason the Cleveland Cavaliers are interested in signing the former Detroit Pistons guard as according to WFNY, team officials met with the guard recently.
"Could Chauncey Billups be the next veteran to join the Cleveland Cavaliers? Multiple sources tell WFNY that Billups, a five-time NBA All-Star, spent Tuesday in Cleveland with Cavs head assistant coach Tyronn Lue, ultimately finishing up his trip with a Warehouse District dinner meeting alongside Lue, Cavs general manager David Griffin, head coach David Blatt."
WFNY couldn’t confirm the details of the meeting and while it’s well known that Chauncey Billups wants to get into a coaching role, the guard has previously expressed a desire to play this season.
Even if he did end up signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers, one could reasonably assume that his role on the team would be relatively minimal as he simply isn’t the player he once was. Still, veteran leadership isn’t always easy to come by, let alone somebody like Billups who possesses so much.
He’d be a fine addition in a player/coach model to keep the locker room sane as the young Cleveland Cavaliers roster deals with their first taste of Lebron-mania.
