Patriots’ Jimmy Garoppolo throws TD pass to Brian Tyms (GIF)

The New England Patriots and the Washington Redskins opened up their 2014 preseasons against one another on Thursday night, and when it was all said and done, it was the Redskins who came out with the convincing 23-6 victory. However, rookie quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was impressive for the Patriots in this one, despite the team’s loss.

Garoppolo, the rookie out of Eastern Illinois, finished the night 9-of-13 for 157 yards, which included this touchdown pass to Brian Tyms with time running out in the fourth quarter.
What may have been the best part, however, besides the rookie looking good in his NFL debut, was what Tyms did after he caught the TD. Because he’s a man of the people, he decided to sit with them.
Or he just crashed into them, it’s up for interpretation.
While losing the game was not a good sign, even though it is just the preseason, the performance from Garoppolo in this one had to lift the spirits of the Pats’ coaching staff. Yes, even Bill Belichick.
There are many that see this young man as the future of the organization once Tom Brady decides to step away from the game.
If Garoppolo could build off of what he did tonight, then this team will be in pretty good shape.
