The preseason is officially underway now that the Hall of Fame Game is in the books and as a result, the teams around the NFL hoping to get a hot start to this season are off and out of the starting gate.

Two teams who very well could meet in the Super Bowl again this year are the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens — and both of those teams squared off tonight in a little preseason Har-Bowl action. Just like mostly all of the other meetings though, there was one Harbaugh brother who got all the luck and that was the brother who takes up residence on the East Coast.

Despite all the talk about Ray Rice and his controversial suspension, the Ravens clearly didn’t seem too distracted by any of it as they pounced all over the Niners on Thursday night. After taking a 3-0 lead to start the game, the 49ers proceeded to allow 23 unanswered points to the Ravens in their first sound beating of the year.

Of course, no one is going to place much stock in the loss, as if anything it shows that the Ravens have better backups than the Niners and that’s it. But that’s still an important part of the game, and if guys who aren’t even starters cant torch the Niners defensive depth, then some people are going to start losing jobs and it won’t be anyone who matters.

That’s the glory of the preseason though as the Niners may be the better team but on Thursday night, they weren’t the deepest on the field.
