It’s a given that EJ Manuel will be the starting quarterback for the Buffalo Bills when the regular season rolls around, but the battle to back him up is definitely getting interesting. Through training camp and preseason, Jeff Tuel and Thad Lewis will do battle for the right to play behind Manuel, and thus far, it seems as if Tuel is the one in the lead to win the race.

According to a report from Bills beat writer Joe Buscaglia, throughout training camp so far, Tuel has most certainly shown the coaching staff that he is the one to look to, should anything happen to Manuel, who has proven in the past that he’s a bit injury prone.

Now all backup jobs are somewhat important, but again, when you have someone like Manuel starting who has already proven that he’s prone to injury, the job becomes that much more important.

In the Hall of Fame Game last Sunday for the Bills, their unofficial first preseason game of the season, Tuel went 12-of-17 for 74 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Lewis went 10-of-16 for 87 yards with no scores and one pick.
