Cam Newton ruled out of Panthers’ preseason opener vs. Bills
By Jack Crosby
The Carolina Panthers will open up their 2014 preseason slate on Friday night when they take on the Buffalo Bills, they will be doing so without quarterback Cam Newton taking the field, as he has been ruled out of action for the night.
This really is no surprise, as Newton continues to recover from the ankle procedure that he underwent this past offseason. Holding him out tonight is not an indication that anything is wrong, rather it’s just a precaution as they don’t want to take the risk with having him out there.

Newton has been participating in training camp, and although there was a lot of controversy surrounding the team letting a lot of their wide receivers walk after last season, he has been building up quite the rapport with first-round pick Kelvin Benjamin out of Florida State. He and his new 6-5 target have been building up more and more chemistry as time has gone on.
However, we will have to wait until another night to see just how much they’re progressing together, as Newton won’t be tossing the balls on Friday night for the Panthers.
