John Reid commits to Penn State: Nittany Lions get 4-star CB
The impressive class for first-year head coach James Franklin at Penn State continues to get stronger as the Nittany Lions picked up the commitment of four-star cornerback John Reid (Philadelphia, Penn. St. Joseph’s) on Friday evening.
Reid is the nation’s No. 114 recruit overall regardless of position, No. 13 cornerback recruit and the no. 2 recruit in the state of Pennsylvania, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He picked Penn State over offers from Notre Dame, Michigan State and Alabama, among others.
At 5-10, 180-pounds, Reid does not have great length that you would ideally want in a cornerback, but what he lacks in length, he makes up for in exceptional instincts that allow him to get in position to make plays on the ball.

Reid has great reactionary skills, change of direction mobility and agility that allow him to quickly react to moves from wide receivers so he’s rarely out of position and can deflect the pass or intercept the ball.
Franklin made Reid one of his priorities when he left Vanderbilt for the Penn State job last winter and Reid was one of the first players he visited at home as he attempts to keep all the top recruits in the state at home and headed to Happy Valley.
With the addition of Reid, Penn State now has commitments from the top four recruits in Pennsylvania and seven of the top nine as the Nittany Lions boast the nation’s No. 5 class and the No. 1 class in the Big Ten.
