Team USA remains the FIBA favorite after Kevin Durant’s withdrawal
When Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant withdrew from Team USA, announcing that he will not play in the 2014 FIBA World Cup, it caused a bit of an uproar. Durant has led the NBA in minutes and cited both his physical and emotional exhaustion as the reasons for him removing himself from the team.

It also led many to speculate that Team USA may no longer be the favorite and that teams like Spain, France or Greece could challenge the US for basketball supremacy. However, Team USA is still filled with talented players like Chicago Bulls’ point guard Derrick Rose, Cleveland Cavaliers’ point guard Kyrie Irving, Golden State Warriors’ guard Stephen Curry and New Orleans Pelicans’ power forward Anthony Davis. That’s why Team USA remains a heavy favorite to win the World Cup.
“Despite the numerous injuries and now the withdrawal of Kevin Durant from the USA’s roster, the Americans remain clear favorites to take it all,” said Kevin Bradley the Sports Book Manager at Bovada.lv. “That said, we have seen some late money come in on Spain with the recent news. Even at 2/7, the USA has taken more money than any other country in what looks like a two team race, but there may be a little bit of value in teams like Argentina and Lithuania who are likely to come out of their respective groups and maybe pull a late round upset.”
