Buffalo Bills running back Bryce Brown has been outstanding through two preseason games. He’s rushed for 104 yards on 18 carries, giving him a superb a 5.8 yards per carry average.

However, Brown’s great success apparently isn’t a surprise at all to Bills’ coach Doug Marrone, who called the tailback a potential NFL starter following the team’s’ 20-18 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Friday.

From BuffaloBills.com:

"“I think, in my mind Bryce Brown is a very talented running back that has the potential to start in the NFL,” said head coach Doug Marrone. “So I think what happens a lot, when he is in the game I think he is one of the better players on the field. So, his production is not surprising for any one of us.”"

However, unfortunately for Brown, he shouldn’t expect to see any starts this upcoming season. With C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson still in Buffalo, carries should be hard to come by for Brown in 2014, unless Spiller or Jackson goes down with injury (obviously a very real possibility).

But if Brown can continue to impress, perhaps he can etch his way into the Bills’ long term plans. Jacking is aging and Spiller is coming off a down 2013 season, so the Bills might be interested in shaking up their backfield in the next few years.

Buffalo acquired Brown in an offseason trade with the Philadelphia Eagles in May. Brown rushed for 314 yards on 75 attempts (4.2 yards per carry) behind LeSean McCoy in 2013.
