The Boston Celtics haven’t made many major moves this offseason, though they’ve certainly had their name thrown around the NBA rumor mill at a high clip.

More from Boston Celtics

Not only where the Boston Celtics said to be one of the initial favorites to land Kevin Love in a trade they were also reportedly involved in potential trade discussions with the Sacramento Kings which would have sent out All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo for a handful of young assets like Ben McLemore.

Neither deal ended up working out, though, it wasn’t due to a lack of effort as Boston Celtics Wyc Grousbeck said the team tried very hard to make ‘fireworks’ this offseason.

“I said we’d try for fireworks and we tried,” Grousbeck said. “I’m reasonably content that first of all we tried as hard as we could and second of all we added some good pieces. But we have maintained our draft picks and we’ve maintained more building in the future as opposing to firing all the bullets now.

“We’re going to have to go the more patient route.”

Grousbeck said he knows that it takes superstars to win in the NBA and suggested that the team is doing what they can to acquire assets to eventually put themselves in position to make such a deal. For now though, it appears as if it will be another down year in Beantown with a young, though talented Boston Celtics roster.

Thankfully that youth combined with Rajon Rondo does give them some room to make a deal in the future, however.
