The Texas Tech Red Raiders had an excellent season under first year head coach Kliff Kingsbury. The former Red Raiders’ quarterback and Texas A&M Aggies’ offensive coordinator guided the Red Raiders to a 7-0 start and although they lost their final five regular season games, they rebounded with a 37-23 victory over a very good Arizona State Sun Devils team in the National University Holiday Bowl.

Kingsbury’s biggest challenge will likely come off of the field as he tries to convince elite prospects to come to Lubbock instead of in-state powers like the Aggies and Texas Longhorns as well as the rest of the country. Although he has just nine commitments so far, he is certainly getting a higher quality player. The Red Raiders already have pledges from 5-Star dual threat quarterback Jarrett Stidham, 4-Star defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko and 4-Star offensive tackle Conner Dyer.

On Saturday, the Red Raiders may have found another bookend tackle to block for Stidham along with Dyer when they received a commitment from 4-Star offensive tackle Madison Akamnonu. The 6’5, 269-pounder is from Arlington, Texas and attends Bowie High School. He is ranked as the country’s 31st-best offensive tackle prospect, the 43rd-best overall prospect in the state of Texas and the 295th-best overall prospect in the class of 2015 according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.

Akamnonu also holds offers from the Sun Devils, Longhorns Baylor Bears, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Oklahoma Sooners and Ole Miss Rebels, among others. He narrowed his choices to the Red Raiders and Sooners before making his decision.
