The Ray Allen NBA news cycle has come full circle.

Earlier today, Chris Broussard of ESPN.com revealed that free agent shooting guard Ray Allen had decided to return to the NBA for his 19th career season, but had yet to select a team. Now, Allen’s agent, by way of Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, had denied Broussard’s report, stating the guard remains undecided on whether he should return or retire.

This is fairly common in the NBA: a reporter reveals ‘breaking news’ and an agent denies it. Often, players wish to announce news on their term and their time. With a reporter breaking the news via source, it strips that opportunity away from said player.

This doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed Ray Allen returns to the NBA. Expected to make a decision in September, a lot can change from now until then.

And until he decides, Ray Allen’s free agency will continue to draw interest as many are looking to see if he returns to the Miami Heat or if he follows LeBron James to the Cleveland Cavaliers like Mike Miller and James Jones have.
