Tony Romo may be the most scrutinized quarterback in the NFL over the last eight years. The three time Pro Bowler puts up impressive numbers every season, and yet he is ripped to pieces by fans and pundits alike for the team’s failures.

More from Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys have won only one playoff game since 1996, and that was the Wild-Card game against the division rival Philadelphia Eagles in 2009. Since then, the Cowboys have not made it back to the playoffs and have not been able to secure a winning season either.

Last year the Cowboys had arguably the worst defense in the league, and yet Romo helped the team to get eight wins that nearly catapulted them into the playoffs anyhow. Regardless, the team faltered once again and Romo was given much of the blame.

A recent poll by ESPN’s SportsNation revealed that 59 percent of fans believe the Cowboys will never make it back to the playoffs with Tony Romo at the helm.

Although Romo is unquestionably among the league’s best quarterbacks, he must prove that he can lead his team into a deep run in the playoffs. With a talented offense and improving defense, the 2014 season may be his last chance to try and do so.

With his career in Dallas potentially hanging in the balance, expect Romo to put up big numbers this season.
