Remember when you took a baseball bat, placed your forehead on it and spun around as a child (or possibly an adult, if you’re into that)? Why we freely chose to make ourselves dizzy is an unknown considering we didn’t like the feeling as much when we got older, but alas we did it.

More from New York Jets

So are members of the New York Jets after head coach Rex Ryan decided to bait some of his players into what he’s calling ‘dizzy bat drills’.

They’re no different than what we experienced as kids, outside of the fact that you have a helmet and pads on. Yeah, I don’t remember having to do that when I was seven.

So why the embarrassing dizzy spins? Simply to have some fun and lighten the mood says Ryan.

“Just trying to get the energy level boosted up,” Ryan said. “Get guys smiling, laughing and feeling good. Now you are ready to work. It’s just like in the classroom: You want to get people to smile; you get more out of them when they are attentive. I thought we would break it up just a little bit and start with that drill.”

While some of the New York Jets players might be experiencing some nauseating effects, it’s a rather hilarious drill and it seems to have caught on as players love it – at least those not directly involved.

There’s always been questions about Rex Ryan’s X’s and O’s but when it comes to creating a fun atmosphere, the New York Jets coach seems to have the key to success.
