It took Yoenis Cespedes a little while but he finally got on the board with a home run for his new team the Boston Red Sox. Cespedes went deep Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels, a three-run blast off Joe Smith.

More from Boston Red Sox

Cespedes now has 18 homers on the season, 17 with the A’s and 1 with the Red Sox. Cespedes was acquired by the Red Sox as part of the deadline day trade that sent Jon Lester to Oakland.

Red Sox fans are hoping Cespedes can crank up that right-handed swing and start bombing balls over the monster in Fenway Park, or at least start banging them off the monster for doubles.

So far, Cespedes has been shut out homer-wise at his new home park, and he was being shut out on the road as a member of the Red Sox until finally tagging the Angels on Sunday.

No matter what Cespedes does, this is a dead season for the Red Sox. They are nearly as miserable as they were two years ago when guys were checking out to hammer chicken wings and beers in the clubhouse during games.
