Now that Sarkisian has left the Huskies for the Southern Cal Trojans, former Boise State Broncos’ head coach Chris Peterson will try to keep the Huskies on an upward swing.
The Huskies did not finish off their 2014 class like they would like. They signed 22 players, but their class ranked just 37th in the country and seventh in the Pac-12. They have just nine commitments in the class of 2015 and their class ranks 64th in the country but it is obviously a long way to go. Plus, they have already locked down their quarterback in the class, securing a commitment from the country’s sixth-ranked pro style quarterback, 4-Star Jake Browning.
On Tuesday, they landed their first commitment in the class of 2016 when 4-Star safety Brandon Wellington gave his pledge to the Huskies.
Wellington announced his commitment via twitter.
The 6’0, 220-pound Wellington is from Bellevue, Washington and attends Eastside Catholic High School. Staying close to home was important to him.
“Staying home with family, just being around the environment with the Dawgs,” Wellington told Chris Fetters of Dawgman.com.
He is also happy with the job Peterson has done recruiting him.
“Coach Petersen, he’s close to the players and he doesn’t leave anyone out,” Wellington explained.
Wellington is ranked as the country’s 13th-best safety prospect, the fifth-best overall prospect in the state of Washington and the 186th-best overall prospect in the class of 2016 according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.
