Jon Jones out of UFC 178 vs. Daniel Cormier; pushed to Jan. 3

On Tuesday night, Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting teased some bad news surrounding the UFC and it was immediately rumors of Jon Jones being out of his UFC 178 light heavyweight title defense against Daniel Cormier at UFC 178 in Sept.

Jones and Cormier have been publicly going back-and-forth and generating some entertaining trash talk, but the build up to the fight has come to a screeching halt.

According to reports, Jones is out of UFC 178 and the bout is expected to be rescheduled for Jan. 3 in Las Vegas.

On the FOX Sports 1 America Pregame show, it was announced that the UFC light heavyweight champion suffered a leg injury during training that has forced him out of the bout.

It instantly leaves the September show without a main event and the UFC will need to scramble to find a big fight to save the event.

We will update the story with more information as it becomes available.

UPDATE: The UFC has announced that a scheduled flyweight championship bout between Demetrious Johnson and Chris Cariaso will be moved from UFC 177 to UFC 178.
