The Baylor Bears, led by quarterback Bryce Petty and an explosive offense won the conference but suffered an embarrassing blowout loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys late in the season and then were upset by Blake Bortles and the Central Florida Knights in the Fiesta Bowl. The Cowboys ended the season on a sour note, losing to the rival Oklahoma Sooners in the final seconds and then losing the Cotton Bowl to the Missouri Tigers.
By the end of the season, it was the Sooners, who lost to the rival Texas Longhorns and were blown out by the Bears, who were playing the best ball, defeating the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Sugar Bowl.
