Johnny Manziel on Jameis Winston defending the Heisman: There’s going to be a lot of pressure
By Jack Crosby
Just one year after Johnny Manziel became the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy, Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston immediately became the second freshman to capture the trophy, beating out Manziel and a host of others as he led Florida State to a national title. Although Manziel is off to the NFL this season, Winston is back in college football to defend the coveted trophy.

And Manziel recently gave some insight into what Winston can look forward to this season: A lot of pressure from everywhere.
“There is a lot of pressure,” Manziel said, according to the Associated Press. “You’re the one that’s on TV every week. You’re the one who at the beginning of the year is already at the top of everybody’s Heisman list. … It’s everywhere because it’s the biggest trophy in college football.
“For me, I never really let it get to me too much, but at the same time, it was always around and it was always lingering no matter what went on throughout the season.”
Like Manziel said, the hardest part will be ignoring the hype. While you can block it out at times, it will always be there for Winston this season, and it’s basically unavoidable.
The repeat campaign for Winston will begin on Saturday night, August 30 when he and the Seminoles take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
