Now that LeBron James has gone home to the Cleveland Cavaliers, a trend has begun where’s en vogue to want ot go back home and play for your hometown team. It’s something that is starting to even infect the NFL as players think about returning home, but it’s something a bit more special for the NBA.

More from Charlotte Hornets

We heard Kevin Durant say that he wouldn’t mind playing for the Washington Wizards when his contract with the Thunder is up and now Stephen Curry has made similar comments about his hometown Charlotte Hornets.

Curry made his comments on The Doug Gottlieb Show and has caused some minor panic among Dubs fans afraid that this could mean Curry leaves in free agency once his contract is up in the 2017 offseason.

"“I’ve always had thoughts about playing at home, what it would be like,” said Curry, who is in the middle of a four-year, $44 million contract extension with the Warriors. “My dad played there for 10 years, and people around the Greater Charlotte area in North Carolina have done a lot for my family growing up, so you always think about it."

But to calm the masses, Curry points out that he still has three years left on his contract with the Dubs and is happy playing int he Bay Area, something that is only going to increase with winning and a move to San Francisco in the coming years.

"“Right now I feel like I’ve got three years left on my deal, so this isn’t going to be an issue for me for a while. I love the Bay Area and where we are as a team trying to win a championship, and that’s what it’s all about. Of course everybody dreams about or thinks about what it’s going to be like to play at home. Obviously if that opportunity comes along it’s a different discussion.”"

There is a lot that can happen between the start of the 2014-15 season and the start of the 2017 offseason, including a drop off in production for Curry. Still, returning home is a trend for NBA players now and it’s something that would be cool to see if Curry is truly serious about potentially wanting to play for the Hornets in three years time.
